Being a native German, I studied German grammar and English as a second language. After I graduated High School, I moved to the United States. Studying at the University of Toledo I chose German and Art Education as my major, but soon after switched to Economics. I graduated with a 4.0 GPA in my major. I am fluent in both English and German.
ExperienceBeing a native German I moved to the United States after I graduated High School. Studying at the University of Toledo I chose German and Art Education as my major, but soon after switched to Economics and minored in Business Administration. I am fluent in both English and German. I have been tutoring German and English as a second language part time for years. Currently, I work part-time as a German tutor for an on-line language school teaching via Skype.
The efficiency of any study depends generally on the learning environment. A good teacher and carefully designed course ware motivates you to learn, rewarding you for progress and correcting you for mistakes. Even though German is considered to be difficult to learn, it can be a picked up relatively easy, if the study material is organized in the right way. All the student needs to succeed is to show up time and time again.
As a teacher and trainer, I am very organized, and take a fun, but logical approach, to problem solving and student education. Good people skills come in handy during my creative and unique approach for each individual student.
My interest in the computer classroom has grown out of recent experience teaching in that environment. Virtual schools are a rapidly growing and are an innovative way for some students to engage in their education. In a world where social media is prominent, why not use it to help them learn?
I now operate my own personalized virtual classroom with video and audio, which enables me to upload, share and edit audio, video and text files with various students all over the world. Technological resources enable me and my students to engage with diverse learning styles and specific needs through the use of visual, auditory, and kinesthetic methods.
In the courses I create, my students use the virtual environment for writing and turning in notes and essays, communicating with one another and with me, conducting library catalog research and web research of study tools. I have encouraged my students to think and write critically about their experiences with technology in regards to language teaching.
In all of my German and ESL courses, I encourage students to become critical readers, thinkers, and writers. My goal is always not only to promote their intellectual engagement with cultural texts of all kinds, but also to help them become more discerning readers and writers about the world around them.
Because I am passionate about extending educational access to learners throughout the world, I volunteer and participate in the Global Translator Community at Coursera: an education platform that partners with top universities and organizations worldwide, to offer diverse courses online for anyone to take, for free.
I am a self-motivated individual with a strong work ethic and an eye for detail, and have the experience and core values that one needs to develop German materials for any student.
I believe that my teaching experience, combined with my course work and business background, make me a strong mentor. I am not a certified teacher, however, I am in the process of entering an alternative route program at a local University to become certified. I expect to complete all work by May of 2016.
